We're re-stocking our ice cream supplies, it's been flying off the shelves this past week!

At present, to go, we have:

Choc Chip
Strawberry - 1 only
Caramel

We've had requests for teetotal Coffee flavour which we are working on over the weekend.

Talking of which, we will close over New Year, Saturday & Sunday, so we would like to wish you all a Safe & Happy New Year!

Twas the morning after Christmas ...

... & I awoke alone. It looks like Louise has pulled a tendon in her knee, that'll teach her to try out-dancing a Dominican!

Christmas Dinner was a huge success with all those who were there. Many thanks to all of you for helping us celebrate together.

The turkey sandwiches sold out before 7pm yesterday, many thanks to Jose & Vasthi for letting us pitch our stall at Sam's Bar. We hope to be allowed back in again :-/

We've decided, given the number of events planned, that we will close MarLou's for the night on New Years Eve & on New Years Day too.

So, if we don't see you beforehand we'd like to wish you all a Happy, Peaceful & Prosperous New Year.

Everything's ready .....

Louise has been working like a trooper for the Christmas Dinner. Everything is ready & all the places are booked.

Now all I have to do is dress the tables & raise a smile for you all .....

Merry Christmas!

Last chance to book Christmas Dinner

We still have some space left for Christmas Dinner.

Just to re-cap, Louise is cooking turkey with all the trimmings with Christmas Pudding & brandy butter on Saturday 24th at 2pm. The cost for Gold Club Members is RD395, RD495 for non-members.

Please let us know by closing at 8pm on Wednesday if you wish to attend.

CHRISTMAS DAY
Although MarLou's will be shut we shall have turkey, stuffing & cranberry sandwiches available at RD100. Jose from Sam's Bar at L'Oase has kindly let us sell them there when he opens from 4pm. We will have them with us all afternoon, so if you can't wait until then "stop us & buy one".

We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

And the winner is ...

Mal & Josie. They won a two course dinner for two at MarLou's.

Our spot draw for Gold Club Members in fact had to be drawn three times.

The first name out of the hat unfortunately is leaving today so couldn't claim the prize.

The second draw was for a Member who wasn't there - you have to be in to win!

Then we finally found our winners. It is rather apt that our karaoke stalwarts should win on Christmas Karaoke night.

Saturday, December 17, 2011

I feel a prize draw coming on ...

Christmas Karaoke one Gold Club Member will win a Prize worth RD500 or more if they are there!

Be there or miss out!

Saturday 17 th December at 10pm!

Getting busier ...

Costambar is slowly awakening after the annual slumber, there are more people on the beach - when it's not raining lol - & there's a sense that the mood among the business owners is lightening.

For our own part at MarLou's, we're getting ready for the Christmas Karaoke on Saturday night, in fact my next job is to find some spanish christmas songs.

Louise is getting together all the ingredients for our Christmas Dinner, whilst at the same time coping fantastically with the increasing load being put on her shoulders in the kitchen.

If you can't make the Christmas Dinner we will have turkey, stuffing & cranberry sandwiches available on Christmas Day on the beach. They will cost only RD100 & we will probably be down there from about 1pm.

We've re-stocked on Rum & Raisin ice cream to go, so if you want some give us a call or pop in anytime.

Enjoy your week
Mark & Louise

For smaller appetites

A lot of customers have commented that our portions are very large, & hence fantastic value for money, but sometimes people aren't that hungry. For this reason we are now serving soup, either as a starter-size portion for RD100 or as a light-main course at RD150.

This week we have pumpkin soup.

Friday, December 9, 2011

We might be closed Christmas Day but ...

... Louise has agreed to make some turkey, stuffing & cranberry sandwiches for the beach.

ONLY RD100!

As always, to avoid disappointment it's best if you let us know how many you want beforehand.

We're ready!

We've spent the last six months at MarLou's getting everything ready for the winter season. Those of you who have been here over the summer have been privy to the changes, for the rest of you here is a brief summary of what we've been up to.

We've re-decorated the whole restaurant, bar & restroom areas;
The kitchen has been enlarged, all the gas pipework replaced for safety reasons & additional refrigeration installed;
We've created an informal dining area in the bar;
The former darts area has become the "Moon Terrace" with informal tables & seating (suitable for quiz nights maybe?);
We have tables & seating by the pool for al-fresco dining/drinks;
The whole sound system wiring has been up-graded;
Last, but by no means least, we now have a COLOUR screen for the karaoke.

These are the physical changes wrought at MarLou's. Additionally, as we've told you recently, we have our new fixed menu & homemade Ice Creams & Speciality Coffees to tantalise your tastebuds.

NEW SERVICE.

We now have our delicious homemade Ice Cream available to take home. We are selling it by the pint for just RD150 a pint!

Right now we have the following in stock:-

I think that's enough news for everybody to "digest" at the moment.

Have a good week

Happy Thanksgiving!

Once again my darling wife excelled herself - the Thanksgiving Dinner was a fabulous success with all those who tried it!

The pumpkin soup got things off to a great start, only one person opted for the melon & lime sorbet. Whatever was ordered, however, the plates came back squeaky-clean.

The main course was met with universal approval as you can see ...

The grand finale, though, was the pumpkin pie ...... seen below in the raw.

We still have some left over for those who want to see what they've been missing.

Next up is Louise's famous Christmas Dinner on December 24th.

We hope to see you there!

Thank heaven for little girls

Last night was, I believe, huge success largely thanks to two vertically challenged ladies. (Oh I am so gonna get stress for this!)

Firstly Hazel - the small lady with the big personality & voice of an angel. She played two sets & I could see that she was a great success & it was very gratifying to see so many new people enjoying her music.

Secondly my very own Graf Spee (pocket battleship), Louise - as always her cooking was fantastic & the fish & chips went down a treat. However, it was Louise's homemade ice cream that elicited the most "ooh's" & "ahh's". I think we're onto a winner there, especially as she's planning some interesting flavoured ice creams ...

Of course none of this would have meant anything without customers to enjoy it. So our biggest "Thank you" goes out to everybody who joined us last night, especially those of you who brought your friends along for the first time. We really do appreciate it!

Friday, September 23, 2011

Fish & Chips tonight

We've got plenty booked for fish & chips, but we've also a few portions spare. So if you haven't booked but want fish & chips we suggest you arrive early.

Don't forget we've also got live music with Hazel from about 6.30ish.

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

We've been busy at The Restaurant

Louise has been busy making her own vanilla ice cream for use in our Ice Cream Sundaes. The verdict from those who've tried it is YUMMY! She's also working on other flavours, some with alcohol in hehehe.

Friday night we're serving Fish & Chips
we've already got confirmed bookings & suggest that if you don't want to be disappointed you contact us if you want us to ensure your meal.

Also on Friday we are helping a friend celebrate her birthday & Hazel will be dropping by with her guitar to sing a few songs for us all. It should be a busy, fun night.

Here's our food offerings for the next few days:

Chicken Basket
A whole chicken breast fillet on a bed of lightly spiced vegetables baked in the oven in it's own foil basket
served with either pasta or couscous
RD295
-
Mince & Tatties
This is proving popular with the Scottish contingent ;)
RD295
-
Bangers & Mash
Three English sausages with a generous portion of creamed potatoes with Louise's delicious onion gravy
RD250
-
Build Your Own Omelette
You choose the fillings & number of eggs we do the hard work!
from RD210

We also have our new Bar Snack Menu of light snacks or appetisers & our aforementioned Ice Cream Sundaes to finish your meal or just to give yourself a treat :-)

Enjoy your week
Mark & Louise

Believe it or not

I didn't marry Louise for her cooking ... if you buy me a drink I might tell you why, but talk about a hidden bonus!

Tonight I had Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy & WOW! I'd forgotten how good Louise's gravy is.

In fact it's soooo good that I've made an Executive Decision - Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy henceforth will be on the menu permanently at The Restaurant ......... yes it really is THAT GOOD!

Why not drop by & find out for yourself ...

A Reassuring Story

Last night I was chatting with a customer & he told me this true story.

One night, after a long day in & around the bars in Costambar, rather than drive his motorcycle home he left it at the beach & caught a taxi home.

Upon his return the following day his motorcycle was gone.

A couple of days later he spotted his motorcycle parked at the main entrance gate to Costambar. Upon questioning the guards he discovered that they had seen his motorcycle parked at the beach & taken it to the gate for safe keeping!

Now I KNOW the police back in the UK wouldn't even think of doing that.

Another reason we love it here in Costambar

It's Burger Night

Tonight only & by special request Louise is making burgers. Not just any old burgers mind you, but burgers with a difference.

Ziggla Burger with Carggy Relish & Carolina Slaw on the side.

The last time Louise got creative with burgers my tastebuds thought they’d died & gone to heaven, so if you fancy “burger nirvana” you know where to be tonight.

P.S.
We will still have our regular menu available.

Thursday, September 8, 2011

For those with a sweet tooth

Louise & I were throwing ideas around for non-alcoholic chillers & came up with this old classic

A chance to re-live your youth perhaps?

Hurricane Irene - the Aftermath

Well it's been a couple of days since Irene blew through & all in all we certainly dodged a bullet. There was some rain & high winds but no significant structural damage in Costambar.

However ...

On the beach many trees were lost & the storm surge rolled all the way up to the back walls of the Italian quarter with garbage & detritis deposited there.

Some of the beach was washed away, but that's just accelerated the existing erosion patterns. There's a reason we live on top of the hill ;-) .

The biggest problem is that since Monday the Italian quarter & the block behind - where our former bar was - haven't had power. Apparently one of the underground cables has been damaged. Boy are we glad we moved! It always was a nightmare down there which is why we were glad we had a generator, although that cost a fortune to run.

So there you have it, our tropical paradise is returning to normal with APC doing sterling work on the clean-up, I noticed both garbage trucks out & about to get the work done, & now it's so calm we have no cooling breezes .... life's a beach!

Monday, August 22, 2011

Hurricane Irene

Well it looks like Hurricane Irene will miss Costambar & pass north of us. Projected winds are in the region of 40mph+ & heavy rainfall is also forcast.

The Restaurant will be closed today - Monday - & re-open as usual on Wednesday ... we hope!

Everybody in Costambar stay safe & I'll update this site after the storm has passed.

Well Saturday night was a great success - I think all those present will agree with me when I say if you haven't heard "Smoke on the water" played on the digeridoo you haven't lived ...

So to this coming week -

Sunday is roast beef day again. Louise will be preparing her increasingly popular roast beef & yorkshire puddings. Her secret tenderising techniques work fantastically, so if you think you can't get tender beef over here, come down on Sunday & prepare to stand corrected.

Here is our primary menu for the week - as always we will endeavour to cater to any special dietery requests & things may change at the cooks' discretion ...

Seabass
Tender seabass filet blanketed in oats with lime pepper served on a bed of ratatouille with duchess potatoes

Polpette
Pork & beef meatballs simmered in a spicy sauce served on a bed of rice or wholemeal spaghetti accompanied by wholemeal garlic bread

Crepes
Freshly made crepes stuffed with fresh prawns, cheese & chives nestled on a pumpkin sauce

As ever we have our indulgent ice cream sundaes & speciality coffees to finish your meal.

Hopefully this has whetted your appetite & we will see you soon.

Beef Curry with homemade Mango Chutney served on a bed of fluffy white rice

Chicken with a fresh mushroom, white wine & tomato sauce with fresh pak choi & jacket potato

Rather than do fish & chips every Friday we've decided to provide some variety for you. Tonight Louise is cooking burgers with a difference.

She has created three uniquely different beefburgers for you:-

Onion, celery & roasted almond;

Chilli & pineapple.

All available with or without cheese & served with tortilla chips for just RD195.

"Food with a difference"

For some time now Louise & I have been trying to find the words to describe what we offer at The Restaurant.

There are many styles of eateries - fast food, fine dining, pub grub, haute cuisine, gourmet, etc - but none of them accurately encapsulate what we do. Luckily for us we overheard somebody telling a friend what he'd experienced at The Restaurant. He called it "food with a difference".

What is "food with a difference"?

It's a constantly varied combination of dishes & flavours. It's homemade soups with unexpected ingredients like potato, onion & cheddar cheese or chilled cucumber. It's main courses that include fresh local vegetables and herbs. It's delicious ice cream sundaes served every day.

Discover food with a difference at The Restaurant - we know you will be pleasantly surprised.
